About VISION SHIFTER
Progressive metal band Vision Shifter was formed in 2005 by drummer Justin Dixon and guitarist & singer Ian Morrison after an extensive two-year period of writing music and finding each other's musical forte. The chemistry and high energy performance is rounded out by Jason Stevens (Bass). The band's goal is to make "melodic" progressive metal using a variety of different styles and techniques. Some people have compared Vision Shifter to the likes of Steve Vai, Liquid Tension Experiment, and Dream Theater.
Vision Shifter is very technical in their approach to a song. While playing live, the crowd is guaranteed an excellent stage show with plenty of improvisation during the night. "It is nothing for us to come up with new material," says drummer, Justin Dixon, "at the rate we come up with new stuff, soon we could easily play for 3 hours and not play all of our songs." Guitar player, Ian Morrison, said, "I think one really cool thing about the band is that you could come to two shows in a row and hear a lot of the songs played in a completely different way. We have the ability to improvise and still make the whole song come together completely."
Vision Shifter has played numerous shows having traveled from Grand Rapids area to the Detroit area to Northern Oakland County. As of right now, the band has cut 4 demo tracks and is constantly writing new music. In that sense, the band believes in writing music that can appeal to as many audiences as possible and believes in keeping a positive attitude towards music and life. It is very important to each of the members that the band is a class act. Justin states, "We have the drive to take us where we want to go. We have the tools. We have the ability. Until that day, it's all about shameless-self-promotion." If you’re lucky enough to catch a Vision Shifter show, you will understand...and you will quickly become a fan.
